Come join us on Sunday, October 24th for the Seventh Annual Healthy Habits Showcase!

7th Annual Health Expo at Mohegan Sun

Uncasville, CT. – On Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mohegan Sun will host the seventh annual Healthy Habits Showcase, featuring seasonal flu shots, free health screenings, the popular Kidz Safety & Wellness Trail, over 75 exhibits and displays, and much more! Admission is free. Over 50 valuable door prizes will be awarded throughout the event. The Showcase will be held in the 40,000 square foot Uncas Ballroom.

The Healthy Habits Showcase is a great way to promote good health in a fun and entertaining environment. The health expo is a treasure chest of information for families to learn about nutrition, exercise and healthy living. Adults & seniors will learn about, and understand, the latest trends to keep them healthy and active. Healthy Habits Showcase will provide a number of demonstrations from women’s personal safety to massage therapy. Medical professionals will also be on hand to answer questions about weight loss, back pain, home health care and many other topics.

This year’s entertainment includes a great lineup of performers who share a common bond of fitness and exercise. Meet Connecticut Sun’s Kara Lawson! Watch Gabrielle’s martial arts all star team perform! A variety of active and healthy lifestyles will be showcased.

This year’s Kidz Safety & Wellness Trail will feature nine unique demonstrations, starting with a hand washing test. Families will then move on to a healthy teeth station, a food pyramid bingo game, the No Smoking pledge, animal bite prevention, the Amber Alert Child ID Project, and a physical fitness challenge. At the Amber Alert Child ID Project, parents can enter their child’s information into the state police system. This information could aid police in finding a missing child and is one of the most popular stops on the Kidz Safety & Wellness Trail.

The Showcase features free health screenings for adults and seniors to check blood pressure, bone density, memory, vision, hearing and screens for feet and skin. Body mass analysis and fall risk assessment will also be provided at no additional charge. Seasonal flu shots will be provided by Walgreens Pharmacy for adults 18 years of age or older for a small fee. There will also be medical professionals present to answer questions about pharmacy medications, and information on many different diseases and disorders.

The Tri-Town Healthy Foods Pavilion will feature a lavish display of healthy food choices. From pasta and olive oil, to juices and coffees, eighteen food purveyors will each feature a unique product that must be sampled. Don’t pass up the burrito or the kettle corn! A nutritionist will be on hand to answer any questions. Healthy cooking demonstrations by Mohegan Sun Chefs will show how to prepare a tasty appetizer, nutritional entrée and delicious, low fat dessert.

Health Show patrons are encouraged to support our annual Food Drive sponsored by Tri-Town Foods and Suisman Shapiro Attorneys-at-Law. Please bring a non- perishable food item to the Health Expo to help those in need in our community. Collection bins will be available at the entrance to the Uncas Ballroom. All donations will be distributed to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center.

Health Expo patrons can test their safety knowledge in the Safe Kids Pavilion. Interactive demonstrations teach kids about all kinds of dangers from how to approach a stray dog to poisonous items in their homes such as prescription medications and household cleaners. Parents can find out about child passenger safety laws. The bicycle safety team will educate youngsters on securing their helmets and maintaining proper air pressure for their tires. It’s informative, fun and the kids have a chance to win prizes!

Healthy Habits Showcase is presented annually by the Mohegan Tribal Health Department, Quinn & Hary Marketing and The Day. Sponsors include William W. Backus Hospital, Children’s Dental Associates, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, Walgreens Pharmacy, Pfizer, Tri-Town Foods, Suisman Shapiro Attorneys at Law, United Community & Family Services and Hall Radio Group.
